Patrick and update on medical

The last couple of weeks we have been traveling back and forward between dentist in our area.  And trying to find one that could do a root canal on one of Patrick's back molars.  After denial after denial of trying to find a surgeon that does this procedure on children's Patrick age.  Not knowing Patrick's exact age we were told he was about 8 to 9 years old through dental x rays.  Knowing we had Patrick over 10 years we were told that he is probably much younger than we were told.  With his country requirements for adoption it was difficult at this time to adopt a child under the age of two years.  Patrick was abandoned with several other little boys and also one of his brothers.  Sometime when I tell people we do not have an exact age on Patrick they look at us crazy.  We have had ortho-doctors and dentist after dentist tell us there is no way is is anywhere near 12 years old.  Many doctor we have met  told us that they have seen this with children adopted over seas. False birth certificate or incorrect birth dates is normal especially when birth occurs from small villages or cities.   Deaths and birth records are seldom kept or even recorded.  When we travel to the vital office for a birth certificate to be prepared we decided on the date of March 30th.  We had to show a date before April 1 to state he was thought to be at age two years.  Weighing just under 8 pounds he looked like a newborn baby but a very sickly baby.  As if we had been watching a TV show on SAVE THE CHILDREN but only to be actually seeing it in person.  Hard to believe and accept children do live and die in these awful conditions.  We were told Patrick had other siblings and some of them also were in the care of the same orphanage where he resided. But when trying to search for them to adopt they seem to disappear like in thin air.  Back in the early 2000 this happen quiet frequently for a child records to be misplaced or lost.

Getting back to this long day with the dentist. It was not because we did not have insurance or the means to pay for this procedure it was finding a dentist that would take his case. Also with Patrick having health issues we had to also clear any meds during any surgery.   Meanwhile he has been on antibiotics and pain meds to carry him through these weeks. There was a little we could do but wait for our referral for his dentist and pray.  Sad to say for Patrick his tooth decided else.  Saturday his face had started with pain again and pain meds this time just did not work as his face enlarged it was apparently infection had set in.  We applied compresses and waiting to see an emergency dentist.  Patrick's face had enlarged and it was apparent infection was setting in.  During his early years of being failure to thrive, starving and holding on to his fragile little life.  His diet consist of potato water, beets and leaks.  Our son a small fragile skeleton of a boy barely alive.  Still 10 years later it still shows with his poor health.  This one tooth was so badly infected he could barely move his mouth.  For weeks as we waited he cried in pain and this was with pain medication.  With several months of antibiotics the infection would never subside.  Through a emergency referral from an ER doctor we were seen first thing with Patrick this morning and he was rushed in to have his tooth removed.  For the next couple of days Patrick will remain at home healing  After the next couple of days of pudding and jello he will be bouncing around to his ole self.
